2015

Discover the story of TOGO, which began in 2015 thanks to Noémie Labbé-Roy, who was looking for a concrete way to help people in difficulty. She was working for a dog training company and was asked to volunteer to help a young woman who had adopted a dog from an Ontario shelter with the goal of training it as a service dog.

Noémie then discovered a new way to help, one that yielded interesting results through the use of a shelter dog. The idea for TOGO dogs began with this thought: “Why not give abandoned dogs a chance to become service dogs?”

Noémie, having developed all the training protocols for TOGO dogs, trained and hired Providence Gordon, the organization’s dog trainer, and Pascale Rabaraona, a TOGO psychosocial worker responsible for the intake of TOGO humans and families.

Adapting to my living environment was easier than expected and a powerful bond was created between the animal and me. First, my dog is attentive to the signs of anxiety that I may be experiencing. He then allows me to bring myself back to the present moment during night terrors. Then, he takes me out of the isolation caused by my state of stress. The bond developed with my assistance dog Togo is such that my medication has begun to decrease. Sleep has also greatly improved since I have been living with my dog. I no longer feel alone and I am reassured to have the presence of this being who watches over me continuously. In just a few days, I observed and felt the beneficial effects of the psychological assistance dog. Those around me and I have observed, beyond any doubt, the reduction of symptoms related to post-traumatic stress. I am much less anxious and hyper-vigilance hardly manifests itself anymore. What a joy to gradually rediscover a joy of living! Finally, I am aware that my assistance dog alone does not ensure my recovery. However, I am forced to acknowledge that he contributes greatly to my healing. And besides, who says dog says friend for life. Thanks to the organization Les chiens Togo, I not only have an additional therapeutic tool in my possession, but a lifelong companion who brings me unconditional love.

Romeo's human

Hello everyone, yesterday I was asked a question: why a service dog? And here’s why: it starts in the morning when I wake up and Romeo is there, next to me, happy to see me, unconditional love. After his lunch we go out for his needs and the morning walk which makes me connect with nature. My favorite moment is to go play in the park. He makes me rediscover my feelings, talk with people, he calms me down. The anger at the road is almost over, my hyper-vigilance has decreased a lot… That’s why. Romeo = no side effects Medication = side effects. To all those who are waiting for a Togo dog I say it’s worth the wait, it will be the best gift of your life.

Virgule's human

“I’ll sum it up in one sentence: if my beautiful Virgule weren’t here, I would have committed suicide a long time ago. Thank you to WWC for your generosity in covering the costs for our dogs.”
